Ice Hockey 2017-2018

Goals:

  1. To further develop the skills to be successful in life and hockey
  2. To achieve academic success
  3. To play as a team and not individuals
  4. To give 110% every time on the ice
  5. To further develop sportsmanship
  6. Continue the Brewer hockey tradition

Rules & Expectations:

  • Youth Hockey:
    • This is not youth hockey. THIS IS HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY!
  • Playing time
    • Playing time will not be guaranteed
    • The players I feel can be effective in each game circumstance will play
      • Playing time will be based on the game situation
    • JV Playing Time
      • Playing time will be based on effort.

 

  • Issues/Questions/Whatnot
    • Any issues that arise must be dealt with between the player and coaches
      • It is the players job to come to the coaching staff with any issues
        • The player must discuss any issues with the coach. I will not take phone calls from parents. If a situation is not resolved, a meeting with the coaches, parents, and player (possibly the athletic director) will be arranged.
      • I am always available for the players to come to me regarding anything they want to discuss
        • COACHES ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO PARENTS BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER GAMES
          • The coaches will not discuss game tactics with the parents.
          • Coaches will not discuss other players with the parents
          • The coaches are here to coach the players and not the parents 

 

  • Games
    • Players are expected to be at games 1 hour before UNLESS TOLD OTHERWISE (when a bus is not provided)
      • The bus will leave at the time listed.
        • We will not wait for players who are late
      • Players should arrive 15 minutes before the bus is expected to leave
    • Players must wear the Brewer High School Hockey wind suits to the games
    • I will sit a player for any action I deem to be inappropriate. Some actions may warrant multiple games to be missed.
  • Senior Game
    • This does not guarantee that all seniors will play or start the game.
      • The coaching staff will determine playing time based on the game situation
        • This is COMPLETELY AT THE COACHES DISCRETION
  • Parents/Spectators
    • I expect all parents to act responsible before, during and after all games
      • Includes the use of social media
        • Everything posted gets back to the coaches
        • Post positive messages…..not negative
          • Parents & Players represent the entire team
  • Locker Rooms
    • Locker rooms are for players and coaches only
      • Players are to clean the locker room
        • Locker rooms are a privilege
  • Practices
  • Players are expected to be ready when the Zamboni gets off the ice unless otherwise noted by coaching staff.
    • If a player cannot attend a practice they must contact the appropriate coach.
      • Coaches will take note of any continuous absence
        • Hard Practices
        • Use of the same excuse
  • Cell Phones
    • Cell phones will be collected by the coach as players enter the locker rooms
      • No cell phones will be used in the locker room
    • Use of cell phones on bus rides is a privilege
      • If misused, they will be collected on the bus 

Other Informational Items

Binders:

  • Binders will be handed out to each player
    • Players are expected to carry binders and read material
      • Coaches will add material to the binders continuously through the year

Varsity Letter:

  • A player will receive a varsity letter if THEY PLAY A LEAST ONE SHIFT DURING A REGULAR SEASON VARSITY GAME.

Information:

  • The coaches will provide a few newsletters throughout the season with key information, thoughts and plans.
    • This is meant to keep parents up to date on our thoughts and any information that we deem necessary for the parents to know.

Reminders:

  • Paperwork needs to be returned to the office BEFORE STEPPING ON THE ICE.
    • DO THIS ASAP…..THE FIRST WEEK OF HOCKEY IS A VACATION WEEK
  • Cannot step on the ice without all paperwork complete
