Brewer High School has celebrated 28 State Championships across Class "A" and Class "B" competition offered through the Maine Principals Association and has offered at one time or another 24 different interscholastic activities to students throughout the years. Currently, Brewer High School offers 21 interscholastic varsity activities to the student body.
The first Brewer Witches State Championship was in 1953, when the Brewer High School Football team was named State Champion of Class "L" Football. The 1953 team (along with the 1957 football team) were inducted into the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame with the Class of 2018.
The most recent State Championships were in 2019 as the Softball team capped off an undefeated run in Class "B" by defeating York, 7-1 on June 15, 2019. Two weeks prior, the Girls Outdoor Track & Field team won the Class "B" State Championship at their home facility at Brewer Community School. In the winter, the 2019 Girls Indoor Track team winning Class "B" States for the first time in 20 years. 8 months before this was in 2018 when the baseball and softball teams both won State Championships on the same day (June 16, 2018). In the morning of June 16, 2018, the Brewer High School Baseball defeated Wells, 3-2, in dramatic "walkoff" fashion at Mansfield Stadium for the programs first ever State Championship. The softball team followed suit the same afternoon by defeating Greely 1-0 at Coffin Field. This run capped off a 364 day span where Brewer High School athletics won an unprecedented 5 State Championships in less than a year.
State Championship trophies are proudly displayed as part of the Athletic Hall of Fame in the main lobby at Brewer High School.
Brewer Witches teams have competed in 13 other State Championship games and earned "Runner-Up" in those contests after winning Regional Championship contests.
In activites such as Track & Field, Indoor Track, Cheerleading, Golf, Cross Country and Swimming & Diving, the Brewer Witches have accumulated 11 State Runner-up team accolades, with the most recent State Runner-Up occuring in 2018 when the Girls Indoor Track team finished as the Class "B" State Runner-up.
Witches teams have finished as Regional Runner-Up on 29 occassions.
Plaques awarded by the Maine Principals Association recognizing State Runner-Up, Regional Champion and Regional Runner-Up are hung proudly on Brewer High Schools "Wall of Champions"- which is the corridor in Brewer High School that leads from the main lobby to the library, athletic office, "300"/"senior wing".
The Brewer Witches have accumulated several league championships through its years as a member of both the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) and the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC).
The Gold Standard in Brewer is Indoor Track, with the Brewer Witches girls teams having ammassed 8 State Championships, 16 Eastern Maine Indoor Track League (EMITL) Championships and 4 EMITL Runner-Up with the boys teams earning 17 EMITL Championships and 6 EMITL Runner-Up in the 40+ year history of the EMITL. Brewer Football has won 5 State Championships, and ranks 2nd in overall State Championships as a team. As of 2019, Softball has earned 3 State Championships, with 2018 & 2019 being the first "back to back" state championships for any program involved in team sports.
League championship and runner-up plaques are also displayed proudly on the opposite side of the "Wall of Champions", mostly centered around sports bulletin boards for Track and Cross Country.
Brewer High School also at one point or another offered three other activities that are no longer offered at the school or through the Maine Principals Assocition. The Witches were the Regional Champion in Boys Skiing in 1971 and the State Champions in 1979 in Gymnastics. Brewer High School offered interscholastic wrestling from the late 1990's through 2015, but did not earn any team championships or team runner-up in that sport. The 100 win wrestlers board is displayed proudly in the Brewer High School Gym.
